There is something special about being in an empty museum. Its like the exhibits are there only for you. You can touch and explore areas without having to deal with the throngs of visitors.
I always remember reading the book From the Mixed-Up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler as a kid and wanting to run away to a museum and discover its secrets. Having a museum pass is almost as good.
We’ve been enjoying having a Nature Museum pass for the last few months and I really recommend it to anyone especially if you have a toddler. Weekend mornings you see the Members come in early to explore. If you are there when they open the museum is empty and it’s like you have your very own dinosaurs to visit with. My little explorer loves it because he has freedom and is not confined to a stroller. Having a membership makes going to the museum any day a possibility and allows us to take our time when we want to or race through the museum when we need to burn off some energy.
There are so many great museums in Ottawa we are really spoiled. I had a free pass to the Agriculture Museum the other weekend and my adventurer loved naming every animal he passed. The Children’s Museum is amazing and the War Museum is spectacular.
I think sometimes when you live in a city you forget to do things that make your city great. Our museums make our city great and for under $150 you can be a member of one and go any time. If you have small children a pass is really worth it.
So the next time you are looking for something to do and visit a museum. Look into getting a membership. They are a lot cheaper than you think and you will have a year to explore a world class museum in your city.
