Make Ahead Waffles June 21, 2015 Food, Frugal 0 I am not a fan of breakfast. There is something about eating cold soggy cereal that just doesn’t work for me. So when it comes to breakfast in our house I’m looking for something we all can enjoy. Don’t get me wrong pancakes are great but we love waffles more.

Eggo’s are good but there is something fake about their colour that worries me. They aren’t a good deal either, a box of 10 can be $3. This is why I started started making my own.

Now the biggest complaint about waffles is they don’t stay as crisp as they do right after you make them. The solution; freeze them then put them in the toaster just like Eggo’s. I know it seems like a no brainer but it totally works, they taste fantastic and you can have waffles any time you want.

Waffles are a great toddler food, they are easy to hold and chew, my guy dips his in yogurt for breakfast which makes it a fun and easy meal.

You do require a waffle maker to make great waffles. I bought a cheap one for $10 at Walmart a few years ago which is in horrible shape (I’ve broken the plastic casing) but works just fine. You also need a waffle mix. Either make your own (here’s a link to a recipe) which is cheap and easy or use the box variety. I bought a bunch of Aunt Jemima’s Pancake Mix a while back and on the back of the box is a recipe for waffles. All you need to remember is to lay out the waffles flat when they are done. If they are bent they will burn in the toaster. Once they cool put them in a freezer bag and pop them in the toaster whenever you’ve got a craving for waffles.

This has been a huge time saver for me and made weekday breakfasts so much easier. So if you’re looking for an easy breakfast solution whip up a batch of Make Ahead Waffles.
