Festival season is upon us. Poutinefest just ended ($14 for a poutine! Crazy) and next up is the Ottawa Children’s Festival which starts today May 4th until Sunday May 13 at Lebreton Flats. Though the outdoor free activities only really get started on the 8th.
I have such fond memories of summer Children’s festivals growing up in London, On. Their festival sprawled throughout the downtown and you just had to be a part of it. As a child it was amazing and later as a volunteer it was great. So my hopes for Ottawa’s festival are admittedly high.
Last year we walked down to Lebreton Flats expecting to see an extravaganza of kid related fun and we were instead greeted by car dealerships, Bell kiosks and one person face painting. It was such a disappointment. So really it can only get better.
This year boasts Junkyard Symphony, OAG art tent and the Mad Hatter Tea Party. It does not sound like a lot is happening which is a shame. There are so many kids who live in the National Capital Region if they pulled out all the stops people would flock to this kid friendly event. There are additional events to participate in some for as low as $5.
We will be heading down Saturday morning to participate in the festivities. Hopefully it will be an amazing time for all of us.
